Though it may not be the top-of-the-line Excelon DNX9140, the Kenwood DNX7140 boasts enough performance in its own right to earn a spot on this competitive list. Giving up the ‘Excelon’ label means losing a few features, but what’s left is still quite impressive. The large screen takes up most of the frontal surface area, forcing only the most often used functions to appear as a small row of buttons under the screen. The navigation is by Garmin, which means you get the excellent maps, guidance, and user interface that characterizes Garmin navigation systems. The Parrot Bluetooth unit works well, pairing your phone with the stereo quickly and easily. The other multimedia functions are taken care of easily thanks to the excellent DVD playback, high performance internal amplifier, 24-bit digital-to-analog converter, and full iPod support. The Kenwood DNX7140 does everything well – quite impressive for a non-flagship offering. -
